RMIT University will leverage AWS Direct Connect which enables customers to have low latency, secure and private connections to AWS for workloads which require higher speed or lower latency than the internet. The increased bandwidth will give researchers, students, and staff the ability to experiment and improve experience when using internal systems or student platform like Learning Management System.
The barriers that made RMIT University difficult in educational digital transformation and migrating to the cloud in the past are mainly due to the, lack of infrastructure (high latency and/or high cost of infrastructure), and lack of highly qualified human resources.
During migration period, RMIT University requires high peak of International traffic bandwidth for migration their systems to AWS Cloud. However, they didn't sure of the files' size so require a solution with flexible provision the bandwidth or request the partner to set a soft limit when they started the migration so the process won't be affected.
To make the successful migration, the technical team went to consult and learn to help find and resolve issues such as low latency, packet-loss and security. Ensuring the stability, security and rapid growth, RMIT University and FPT Telecom cooperated to comprehensively deploy the AWS Direct Connect transmission system via the FPT Cloud Connect service. FTI implemented the 1+1 last-mile and AWS Direct Connect connections to ensure high-availability and deployed 1Gbps of bandwidth with flexibly provision solution for the bandwidth.
With the newly upgraded infrastructure directly to AWS in Singapore, along with the experience and implementation capacity for customers in financial and banking sectors, FPT Telecom International provides customers with the AWS Direct Connect channel with the SLA up to 99.95%, an abundant and large undersea cable system in terms of bandwidth, as well as meeting the strict requirements for AWS channel protection. An available bandwidth for 01 customer that FPT Cloud Connect can meet is up to 10Gbps and go through AAE1, IA, APG undersea cables to Singapore. FPT Cloud Connect is a service that provides physical network connectivity on MPLS Layer 2 / Layer 3 technology from a customer's data center in Vietnam to any geographic region where AWS has its service infrastructure. DC connection to AWS will run 1+1 Devices at Singapore will connect at DC Equinix and Global Switch to AWS (1Gbps each with 10Gbps of port) Each PE device is set a soft limit in VLAN and monitor by FTI NOC team with SLA to response RMIT's requesting upgrading/downgrading tickets within 1 hour.
FPT Telecom International (FTI) offered a proposal to use AWS Direct Connect in combination with 1+1 protected optical fiber infrastructure from Vietnam to Singapore. FTI implemented last-mile connections and deployed 1Gbps of AWS Direct Connect with flexibly provision solution for the bandwidth so RMIT University can apply Pay-as-you-Grow (PAYG) payment options of AWS Cloud.
